Pen, HTTPS, Web Farm, and SSL Certificate

I'm planning to use pen to load balance a web farm. For HTTPS, how does
the SSL certificate work in conjunction with pen? If I was load
balancing a several https://www.securesite.com/, do I need a unique SSL
certificate for reach back end web server even though we're only
dealing with one web domain?
